Queer Tango Workshop Weekend

We are over the moon to welcome Sabine for her first Bay Area workshop series—and it’s going all weekend buttercup: milongas, practicas, and workshops for beginning, intermediate and advanced dancers.

Sabine has studied and danced with the tango greats of Europe and Buenos Aires for 25 years. She is an accomplished leader and follower, one of the founding organizers and teachers of queer tango in Europe and has inspired many tango dancers and performers with her love and understanding of the dance. Her teaching emphasizes functional integration of tango movements—suffice to say, we won’t be memorizing patterns!

Everyone is welcome, and by everyone we mean every kind of person, dancer, unicorn and kindred on the face of the earth. It’s a big old queer tango extravaganza and everyone is invited.

Friday February 10th

Lake Merritt Dance Center, 200 Grand Avenue, Oakland, CA.

Welcome Milonga Queer, 7-11 pm

7-8: Beginner’s Lesson by Sabine Rohde

9-11: Dancing to DJ Zeycan’s traditional &alternative tango music. Surprise performances.

Saturday February 11th

Lake Merritt Dance Center, 200 Grand Avenue, Oakland, CA.

12-1:30 Followers learning to lead. (Open to dancers who regularly follow on the social dance floor, who want to learn to lead!)

1:45-3:15 Tango Essentials, part one. The Heart of Tango: the embrace, walking sequences and the music—it is here for you. (All-Levels)

3:15-3:45 Practica.

4:00-5:30: Finding balance in dynamic movements: Ganchos, boleos, leg wraps--high and low, follower’s choice! (Intermediate plus dancers: A minimum of one-year regular tango practice is required.)

Sunday February 12th: Different location than Saturday workshops!

2:30-4 Tango Essentials, part two. Tango Magic: achieving balance, connection and fluid movement on the social dance floor. (All-Levels.)

4-4:30 Practica

4:45-6 Close embrace explored: Achieving grace and power with close embrace movements for the social dance floor. (Intermediate plus dancers: a minimum of one-year regular tango practice is required.)

6:30-9:30 Closing Milonga with DJ Sabine
